About the Course
Concept Art for Games is an eight-week live course focused on developing visual thinking and design approaches used in game production, rather than emphasizing final rendering alone. The course centers on design clarity, intention, and decision-making, with less emphasis on surface polish. Each week addresses a core area of game art development, beginning with everyday objects and progressing through weapons, vehicles, environments, characters, creatures, and bosses. Students explore approaches to working from briefs, analyzing existing styles, pushing shape and proportion, and designing with considerations such as gameplay context, rigging constraints, and visual effects. The course concludes with a structured presentation and portfolio review focused on organization and visual readability. Students examine methods for presenting work in a way that communicates process and design thinking clearly. Overall, the course emphasizes understanding how design decisions are made in game development and how those decisions can be communicated through visual work.
